The Bongo Foundation,
a non-profit organization dedicated to feeding the hungry and supporting an orphanage and a school in The Congo, announced today that it has become an incorporated and registered society in BC. This milestone will enable the foundation to pursue more funding opportunities, increase its public awareness, and extend its reach to Canada and other countries.
The Bongo Foundation was founded by Chef Victor Bongo, a renowned African-Canadian chef and restaurateur, and Mack Benz, a hospitality expert and entrepreneur. The foundation is inspired by the legacy of Chef Bongo’s late-grandmother and uncle, who established an orphanage and a feeding program in Luozi, a small town in The Congo, over 25 years ago. The foundation aims to continue their humanitarian work by providing food security, education, and empowerment for the orphans and the local community.
As a BC society, the foundation plans to apply for grant funding from various sources that are available only to incorporated or registered societies, such as community gaming grants, charitable donations, or government programs. The foundation also hopes to explore child culinary programs and youth competitions to foster important skillsets in children that will benefit them their whole lives. In addition, the foundation is applying for CRA charitable status and will soon have the legal status to raise money nationally and provide tax receipts to large donors.
“We are thrilled to announce that The Bongo Foundation is now a BC society,” said Chef Bongo, the president of the foundation. “This will allow us to expand our charitable mission and make a bigger impact in the lives of those who need it most. We are grateful for the support of our partners, donors, volunteers, and friends who share our vision of creating a better world through food and education.”
The Bongo Foundation invites the public to learn more about its causes and projects by visiting its website at www.bongohospitality.com/foundation or following its social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
